Colombia invests up to $700 million in SAF production plant to decarbonize aviation.

Ecopetrol, Colombia’s state-owned energy company, has announced plans to invest between $500 million and $700 million in the construction of a Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production plant at its Barrancabermeja refinery. The operation is expected to start by 2030, with an estimated capacity of 6,000 barrels of SAF per day.

This investment is part of Ecopetrol’s broader strategy, which includes an investment plan of $5.9 billion to $6.8 billion for 2025, primarily funded by the company’s cash reserves, which totaled $4.4 billion at the end of 2024.
The initiative positions Colombia as a key player in the energy transition of aviation, aligning with global emission reduction goals and promoting sustainability in the aviation sector.

At Sky Pure Energy, we closely follow developments like these in the industry, as they represent a significant step towards a greener and more sustainable future for aviation. We are committed to innovative solutions that drive decarbonization and energy transition across all sectors.
